Title

7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m Discussion of Potential Topics for Future Town Council Work Sessions Meetings

Body

BACKGROUND SUMMARY:

Town Council members have asked me to add items to the Town Council Work Sessions for full Town Council consideration in a future Work Session.  While it takes one Council Member to add an item to a Work Session agenda, it will be most efficient for Town Staff to do extensive work on matters that the majority of Town Council has directed or expected Town Staff to pursue.

OVERVIEW:

A) Commission Term Limits, Committee Term Limits and Salaries (Director of Finance/Councilmember Allen),

B) Local Stop Sign Guidelines (Director of Public Works/Council Member Allen),

C) Sidewalks moving forward after the Maud Robinson Trust sidewalks are installed (Mayor)/Director of Public Works)

D) The Town's SMD Pilot Program (Council Member Baldwin/Director of Public Works)

E) Residential Bamboo Remediation, Invasives and Deer Remediation (Director of Parks and Recreation/Councilmember Anderson),

F) Bills being Introduced at GA & FOIA (Council Member Allen),

G) Remove Personnel Section Out of Town Code (Director of Human Resources)

H) Deer Repelling Sound from Residential Dwellings (Police Chief/Mayor),

I) Commercial Vehicle Loading/Unloading Businesses in Neighboring Towns (Director of Economic Development)

SUMMARY/STAFF IMPRESSIONS:

As you can see in the list above, the number of request for Work Session items that Town Staff has received from Town Council members is extensive.  For this reason, it is my hope that in this meeting, Council and Staff will spend no more than five minutes on each topic to decide which items need further consideration and which ones do not.  The items that are deemed to receive further consideration would either be added to a Town Council agenda for a formal vote which would direct Town Staff to prepare the Work Session item or these matters may be added to the next available Town Council Work Session agenda.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

Town Staff seeks guidance from Town Council in this Work Session regarding which of the items in this agenda should be scheduled for a future Work Session.  Each item is designed to receive up to five minutes of discussion with the Council Member who requested the respective item leading the conversation.  Items that receive support from only one Council Member will not be scheduled for a future Work Session until that item has support from at least a second Council Member.

Any item that receives support from two or more Council Members will be placed on the Work Session schedule in the order of items that receive the highest support.  Once those items have been identified those items will be scheduled at the next available Town Council Work Session.
