CONSIDERATION OF THE DRAFT FISCAL YEAR 2025 ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE PLANNING COMMISSION

Pursuant to Virginia Code ?15.2-2221.5, the local planning commission shall "make recommendations and an annual report to the governing body concerning the operation of the commission and the status of planning within its jurisdiction."
Section II.C. of the Planning Commission Bylaws states that, "The Planning Commission shall prepare a written Annual Report to the Town Council, and, at the direction of the Town Council, present said report to the Town Council."
Attachment 1 is the draft Planning Commission Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2025 (July 1, 2024 - June 30, 2025) prepared for the Commission's review. In prior years, annual reports were prepared on a calendar year basis. To align with the Town's budget cycle, all boards and commissions are now presenting reports by fiscal year. As a result, some overlap in content with the adopted 2024 Annual Report (Attachment 2) is expected; however, going forward the reports will consistently follow the fiscal year format.
The draft report includes:
* Motions and votes for each action taken.
* Summaries of meeting content.
* Identification of public hearings.
* Records of recommendations forwarded to the Town Council.
As this is the Planning Commission's report, the Commission may make any changes it deems appropriate.
The Town Council has expressed interest in receiving direct updates from each Town board and commission at least once per year. The Planning Commission's Annual Report will be forwarded to the Town Council for discussion at its October 20, 2025, Work Session, where all board and commission annual reports will be presented. While all members are welcome to attend, the Town Council has also requested a brief presentation on FY 2025 activities by the Commission Chair.
