EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
The Department of Public Works (DPW) requests Town Council approval to proceed with a contract in the amount of $230,936.50 with Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP to provide engineering services for survey, easement plats, utility test holes, and design utilizing the on call Civil Engineering contract RFP 23-37.
The Nutley Street storm water culvert system includes an existing triple barrel, 36-inch diameter culvert that crosses under Nutley Street near the intersection with Virginia Center Boulevard and Marshall Street. The existing culvert is undersized, and this project will mitigate flooding issues for surrounding homes. The proposed design services will replace the existing culvert with twin 10-foot by 6-foot culverts with an updated hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, traffic control, and technical specifications.
Next Steps: Complete the design phase and request approval for the construction phase at a subsequent Town Council meeting.
Expected Completion Time Frame: Complete design by August 2024 and award construction in the Fall of 2024.
