Title

Motion to Rescind the Motion to Set a Definite Date for a Public Hearing on the Meals Tax Rate

Body

DATE(S) OF PRIOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION OF THIS ISSUE:

July 6, 2026 - Town Council Meeting

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:

Having reviewed the video recording of the July 6, 2026, Council Meeting, Councilmember Anderson believes that his intent on the day was misconstrued.  Councilmember Anderson’s intent was to defer a vote (initially indefinitely but amended to a date in early 2027) on whether to even have a public hearing on changing the meals tax rate.  It was never his intent to set a definitive date for a public hearing on the meals tax rate; rather it was his intent to delay consideration on whether to set a public hearing on this matter until full 2026 calendar year data for the 4% meals tax rate were available and could be reviewed.  The simplest way to clarify the record is to have a vote to rescind the July 6, 2026, final action on this matter, which was to definitively set a public hearing for early 2027 on whether to change the meals tax rate.

Should other Councilmembers wish to have a public hearing on this matter, they can simply vote no to Councilmember Anderson’s motion.
