Update on Meals Tax Discussion

Town Council held two public hearings related to meals tax on November 18, 2024. The first hearing was related to changing meals tax collection for Town-Sponsored Special Events and the second was a proposed 10-Year Temporary 1% increase to the Meals Tax to fund a proposed aquatics center.

 

The first item resulted in a motion to approve the proposed change to Chapter 6, Finance and Taxation, Article 4, Meals Tax, Section 6-35, Exemption; limits on application to add a provision to charge a flat meals tax in lieu of a percentage meals tax for Town-sponsored special events as presented above to include Town licensed food vendors. The Town Clerk was directed to advertise a Notice of Intent to Adopt for December 9, 2024.

 

The second item resulted in a motion to continue the discussion until December 9, 2024. The public hearing was closed; however, written comments were accepted until the close of business on November 27, 2024. Staff will share an update on the outcome of the December 9 discussion.
