BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
The Town has contracted with Kimley-Horn to conduct the Town’s first Parks & Recreation Master Plan. The Town is committed to prioritizing the longevity, access, safety, and opportunity of parklands and recreational facilities.  This project will identify the needs of existing and future residents to elevate and improve open spaces, trails, and community gathering places.

Staff from the Parks and Recreation Department is managing this project, under the leadership of the Town Council and with strong input from and collaboration with community stakeholders.

 

OVERVIEW:

The upcoming council work session is designed to update the Council and the public on the progress of the Master Plan project from February through May. The session aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the activities completed to date, discuss the upcoming benchmark analysis, outline the next steps and timelines, and highlight high-level findings. This work session is intended to ensure transparency and foster collaboration between the Council, the public, and the project team. Attachment 2 is available for cross-referencing of Town-owned properties relevant to slides 12 and 13 of Attachment 1.

 

NEXT STEPS

Kimley-Horn and staff will present to Council at a Fall Council Work Session to further review findings from community input and the national benchmarking process and provide a progress report on developing a draft of the Parks & Recreation Master Plan.

 

EXPECTED COMPLETION TIME FRAME:

Spring, 2025

 

SUMMARY/STAFF IMPRESSIONS:

Staff look forward to discussion on areas of importance to the Town regarding the Parks & Recreation Master Plan process.

The Department of Parks & Recreation staff recommends that the Town Council provide input on the Parks & Recreation Master Plan process and key takeaways from the session.
