Request approval for spending an additional $10,672.09 in funds for Cherry Street SE - Robinson Trust Sidewalk Project utilizing Arthur Construction Co., Inc.
Body
EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Former Council member Maud Robinson, who passed away in March of 2019 just shy of her 97th birthday, left the bulk of her estate to the Town of Vienna for the specific purpose of building sidewalks over a five-year period in areas where sidewalks are not already planned or likely to be funded through grants or new construction.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) was previously approved to spend $261,448.48 with Arthur Construction Co., Inc. during the March 21, 2022 Council meeting. DPW now requests an additional $10,672.09 due to unexpected work on Cherry St SE that resulted in an increase of costs.
While excavating to replace the driveways for two houses on Cherry Street, the contractor exposed previous layers of concrete and layers of asphalt and concrete driveways. The contractor was instructed to remove these layers of concrete and asphalt for better compaction, prior to installing the new driveway. Additionally, a large tree was removed at the homeowner's request due to concerns the tree roots would be compromised when the sidewalk is installed.
The Department of Public Works requests approval to spend an additional $10,672.09 above the previously approved $261,448.48 for a total of $272,120.57 with Arthur Construction for the Robinson Trust Sidewalk Project.
