A Resolution of the Town of Vienna, Virginia Town Council Approving of the Town's Participation in the Proposed Settlement of Opioid-Related Claims

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY: The Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as other states and localities filed suit against opioid distributors and manufactures. As part of the litigation, localities could opt in or opt out of the proposed class action lawsuit. The Town of Vienna would participate with Fairfax County on the distribution of settlement funds unless it decided to bring its own legal action against opioid distributors and manufactures.
The Town Manager and Town Attorney would recommend that the Town participate in the class action settlement and adopt the proposed Resolution. This would enable the Town to participate in the settlement distribution made to the state and Fairfax County. The greater the local participation in the settlement the greater the amount of funds that will be available to Virginia.

Town Attorney Recommendation: The Town Attorney recommends approval of the proposed Resolution approving the Town's participation in the proposed class action settlement of opioid-related claims.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council approve the proposed Resolution approving the Town's participation in the proposed settlement of opioid-related Claims and further move to approve the Town Manager and/or the Town Attorney to execute the necessary documents to the effectuate the Town's participation in the settlements, as presented.
