Vienna Public Art Commission 2024 Proposal

Body

BACKGROUND SUMMARY:

The Vienna Public Art Commission (VPAC) was formed in 2017 with seven members appointed by Town Council members for two-year terms. The VPAC acts in an advisory capacity to the Town Council on matters relating to the advancement of Public Art into the community, including the development and funding of a Public Art program.

The purpose of the VPAC is to seek opportunities to integrate seamlessly public art within the Town of Vienna. The VPAC exists to beautify the Town of Vienna and envisions a Town where Public Art is accessible to - and representative of - everyone. Its mission is to enhance the public’s enjoyment of Vienna’s community spaces by securing the installation of Public Art throughout the Town.  VPAC provided a draft of a Vision for the Public Art Master Plan to council on July 11, 2022.  Council comments included assuring that proposed projects pass through Council prior to advancement to the Board of Architectural review.

The Code of the Town of Vienna, VA Chapter 28 details the purpose, powers and duties of the VPAC.
