DATE(S) OF PRIOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION OF THIS ISSUE:
On Aug. 28, 2023, Council authorized the Department of Public Works (DPW) to initiate engineering studies for five sidewalk projects, including Frederick Street, SW.
On Feb. 26, 2024, Council approved DPW to award the final design contract for sidewalk along Frederick Street, SW, from Tapawingo Road to Kingsley Road on the west side of the street (even numbered addresses) based on the results of the engineering study.
EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Request:
The Department of Public Works (DPW) requests that the Vienna Town Council authorize spending $209,000.00 with A&M Concrete Corporation for construction of a Robinson Trust Sidewalk Project on the west side of Frederick Street, SW, (even numbered addresses) from Tapawingo Road to Kingsley Road.
Discussion:
The Frederick Street project includes 1,000 feet of concrete sidewalk, 234 square yards of concrete driveway entrance, 39 tons of asphalt paving, and miscellaneous and related items.
DPW requests authorization to utilize the On-Call Roadway Maintenance Contract Number IFB 24-12 in an amount not to exceed $209,000. This amount includes 15% contingency for increased quantities and unforeseen conditions.
Community Engagement:
On Aug. 14, 2023, property owners and residents were notified that the engineering study award was being presented to Town Council on Aug. 28, 2023.
On Feb. 7, 2024, DPW hosted a public meeting where a presentation of the engineering report was provided.
On Feb. 12, 2024, property owners and residents were notified that the design contract award was being presented to Town Council on Feb. 26, 2024.
Property owners and residents along the project were notified of this Council meeting via a letter dated August 26, 2024.
