Nutley Street SW Culvert Replacement Design Contract Increase

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
In November 2013 Town Council approved an $80,110 Nutley Street SW culvert replacement design (Project #4140900408) contract with Whitman, Requardt and Associates. Many months of coordination with citizens and the Virginia Department of Transportation have occurred to develop the final design of the replacement of the existing triple 36” culverts with a 20’ by 4.5’ arch culvert. Additional engineering is required for scour analysis, evaluating tailwater conditions and VDOT meetings. The final plans are nearly complete and staff is currently developing construction bid documents. Bid advertisement is planned for this spring and construction is expected to begin this summer.

Town Attorney Recommendation: The Town has a contract with Whitman, Requardt and Associates for the requested services and the Town Council may approve the proposed expenditure of funds in its discretion.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council approve a $20,000 design increase for Nutley Street SW culvert replacement with Whitman, Requardt and Associates as presented.
