Body

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY

In the fall of 2023, the Town wide survey was conducted for the first time since 2018.  The statistically valid questionnaire known as the National Community Survey (NCS) was first conducted in 2014 and is typically administered every two years.  However, the 2020 survey was cancelled for pandemic-related reasons.

The anonymous questionnaire for the current survey was mailed to thousands of Town of Vienna households selected through a random sample by the Town’s survey contractor, Polco, a national firm that administers the scientific survey to hundreds of communities across the U.S.  The purpose of the survey is to gauge satisfaction levels on a variety of topics ranging from specific Town services to the community’s overall quality of life.  The response rate of more than 30% is considered outstanding.

In addition, Polco administered an open survey online for all residents who did not receive the statistically valid survey in the mail.  Results for both versions are in the attachment “The NCS Report - Vienna, VA 2023.”

Steven Vickers from Polco will present the results to the Vienna Town Council at the Jan. 29, 2024 Council meeting and will be available to answer questions.
