John Marshall and Holmes Drive NW additional intersection design.

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
As part of a VDOT Revenue Sharing grant, at the September 23, 2013 meeting Town Council awarded a $33,500 John Marshall Drive NW sidewalk design contract to Rinker Design Associates (RDA). This additional $5,000 design request is to tighten the John Marshall and Holmes Drive intersection curb radii to shorten the pedestrian crossing distance and make it more difficult for motorists to turn without stopping. The intersection reconfiguration can then be built economically with the sidewalk project.
Departmental Recommendation: Recommend approval.

Purchasing Recommendation: Recommend approval
Town Attorney Recommendation: The Town Council may approve the proposed contract modification and request for additional appropriations in its discretion.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council approve the additional $5,000 design work with RDA for the John Marshall Drive NW sidewalk project as presented.
