Authorization for Payment of Supplemental Legal Fees to BrigliaHundley, P.C.

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Pursuant to the Town’s legal services contract with the Town Attorney, the Town Attorney may submit requests for supplemental fees for legal services provided in fiscal year 2017-18 that are not covered by the legal services contract. Such fees include supplemental specific legal services requested by the Town, appeals of misdemeanors and traffic offenses to the Circuit Court, and other in-court litigation matters. Supplemental fees are charged at the hourly contractual rate of $195. For the current year, the firm asks Council to appropriate an amount not to exceed the approved budget of $30,000. In future years this will be part of the annual consent agenda and will not require separate Council approval.
The first invoice for $13,872.25 was presented by the Town Attorney in October. Purchase order 20180348 was entered in advance of Council approval, and accordingly, the waiver and PO are attached.
