EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
The Department of Public Works -Vehicle Maintenance requests approval to upgrade current analogue radios to digital and to purchase additional digital units. Radios are used by DPW and Parks and Recreation to communicate during normal operations and most critically during weather events when dependable radio service is essential. Crews have experienced poor radio service with the existing aging radios. Digital radios have better voice quality, longer service, double the capacity of analogue channels, and have a 40% longer battery life. Purchase of digital radios will be made riding Stafford County’s communication products contract.
