Approve the Bee City USA Resolution

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
The Conservation and Sustainability Commission requests that the Town of Vienna make a difference in efforts to reverse the threat currently facing pollinators in Vienna by adopting a resolution to make the Town of Vienna a Bee City USA. Bees and other pollinators have experienced population declines due to a combination of habitat loss, poor nutrition, pesticides, parasites, diseases, and climate change. The Town’s participation in the Bee City USA program will help raise awareness of the role pollinators play in our communities and what residents can do to provide them with healthy habitats. In adopting the Bee City USA resolution, the Town of Vienna will agree to a set of commitments for creating sustainable habitats for pollinators, which are vital to feeding the planet. Vienna will become certified as a Bee City USA affiliate.
Departmental Recommendation: Recommend approval of the Bee City USA resolution.

Town Attorney Recommendation: Town Council may approve the proposed Bee City USA Resolution in its discretion.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council approve the Bee City USA resolution and authorize the Mayor to execute it, as presented.
