Request approval for engineering services for a Route 243/Nutley Street SW Mixed-Use Trail

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP has provided a proposal to perform engineering services for the referenced project. The purpose of this task is to replace the existing 4-foot concrete sidewalk with a 10-foot, mixed-use path along the west side of Route 243/Nutley Street from Marshall Road SW/Virginia Center Boulevard to Tapawingo Road SW. This project will link to the proposed mixed-use trail associated with VDOT’s Transform I-66 Project to the Town’s designated bike route on Tapawingo Road SW. The length of the project is approximately 1,300 linear feet. The Town has received Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Concessionaire Funding for design and construction of this project.

Town Attorney Recommendation: The Town has an engineering services contract with Whitman, Requardt, and Associates, LLP, and Town Council may approve the proposed engineering services project expenditures in its discretion.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council award the Nutley Street SW mixed-use trail design contract to Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP as presented.
