Request approval for purchase of a Bobcat All-Wheel Steer Loader

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
The Streets Division paves the Town's roadways using a variety of equipment, such as trucks, an asphalt zipper, paver, and one bobcat. The paving that can be done is limited by the amount of roadway that can be milled. In order to increase milling production, the Streets Division needs the ability to remove the millings more efficiently. Adding an additional bobcat will almost double the rate at which millings can be removed, increasing the paving operation’s efficiency. When the new bobcat is not being used for paving operations, it can be utilized for snow removal, street repair, and other Town operations.
The Department of Public Works’ Vehicle Maintenance requests to purchase as a new addition to the VRP a Bobcat All-Wheel Steer Loader that will be identified as Vehicle #140. The bobcat will have a 12-year useful life. This purchase will be made utilizing Sourcewell Contract #042815-CEC and will be financed with unused VRP funds.

Town Attorney Recommendation: The Town may ride the Sourcewell contract for the proposed equipment purchase or solicit bids in the discretion of Town Council.
Town Manager's Recommendation: I recommend the Town Council approve the proposed expenditures of funds for a Bobcat All-Wheel Steer Loader, as presented.
