Request to adopt 2021 Town Council meeting schedule and include the schedule in the 2021 Town calendar. In addition, consider adding Liberty Amendments Day as an official Town holiday.

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Staff requests Town Council’s approval of its 2021 regular meeting and work session schedule, as required by Town Code, for inclusion in the printed 2021 Town calendar. The Town calendar includes meeting dates for Town Council and other boards and commissions as well as Town events. The calendar is mailed to residents in December.
The 2021 calendar will feature artwork by members of the Vienna Art Society. A working draft of calendar dates is attached; please note that some dates/times may still change as the calendar is finalized.
In addition, the Town Manager requests that Council adopt Liberty Amendments Day, in celebration of ratification of the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 19th amendments to the U.S. Constitution. It’s proposed that this holiday be observed on the third Monday of July. Town Manager Mercury Payton also is working with state representatives to request the General Assembly’s consideration of Liberty Amendments Month and the Liberty Amendments Day holiday as part of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s calendar and of observation of Liberty Amendments Day as a state holiday on the third Monday of July. In addition, the Town Manager recommends that the Christmas Eve holiday be extended from a half- to full-day.

Departmental Recommendation: Communications and Marketing staff requests Council’s approval of the 2021 meeting schedule as well as changes to Town holidays for inclusion in the printed 2021 Town calendar.

Town Attorney Recommendation: Pursuant to the Town Code, Town Council modifies and/or sets its regular meeting schedule, and Town Council may approve the proposed meeting schedule in its discretion.
