Maple Avenue Utility Undergrounding Draft Report Review

BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
RDA was retained by the Town of Vienna (The Town) to complete a feasibility study to
convert utilities from overhead to underground along the Maple Avenue (Rt 123)
corridor from Nutley Street to Mashie Drive, Southeast. The Town’s objective is to
ensure a reliable and sustainable infrastructure through undergrounding the existing
utilities in the corridor.
OVERVIEW:
During the study, a review of existing utilities was performed, identification of possible
funding sources, financing strategies, identification of possible land development
requirements to underground utilities during redevelopment and rezoning, and
identification of and prioritization of possible implementation strategies. Existing
franchise agreements with utilities were reviewed and amended agreement terms were
presented. The study includes a conceptual design and associated cost estimate
information.
RDA staff will review the draft study with Council and Town staff.
SUMMARY/STAFF IMPRESSIONS:
Staff will take any Council comments and questions and incorporate feedback into the report prior to finalizing.
