Request formal approval for the emergency elevator repair at Town Hall.

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
The Department of Public Works (DPW) utilized Kone, Inc. for emergency repair for the Town Hall elevator. This repair included the installation of a sump pump and water proofing in the Town Hall Elevator pit. The contractor started work on Sept. 7, 2021, to replace the rusted components and to address an elevator inspection violation. This violation was recently categorized as a life safety issue by Fairfax County during a regular elevator inspection. Fairfax ordered DPW to fix immediately or face a shutdown; however, the County allowed DPW a time extension since DPW has been working with an elevator contractor to address the violation. DPW originally planned to address the violation with replacement of the components and address permanent dewatering when the elevator could be fully modernized. However, the contractor saw evidence that water would continue to build up and rust the new components, so the permanent dewatering had to be done sooner. PO 20220227 in the amount of $48,314 was issued for this emergency repair.
