Police Department requests approval to purchase new Motorola portable radios.

EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY: The Vienna Police Department has not purchased new portable radios for more than 20 years. Officers are currently utilizing older, previously used radios obtained 8 years ago from Fairfax County after that department upgraded its radios.
Utilizing America Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, (attachment #1), the Vienna Police Department requests approval to purchase 50 new Motorola APX NEXT portable radios (attachment # 3), at a total price not to exceed $364,621 (quote price plus 5% contingency).
The radios will be purchased directly from Motorola Solutions, Inc. which is the only distributor of these radios. (attachment #5). The Motorola APX NEXT is the latest generation of public safety portables from Motorola (attachment #6) and will help serve the community’s public safety needs for many years to come.
