Proposed Increase to New Council Salaries

BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
Council salaries have not been increased since 2014 for Mayor, and much longer for Council. Most surrounding jurisdictions have recently reviewed Council and Mayor salaries and increased them.
OVERVIEW:
This increase cannot be applied to salaries of the sitting Mayor and Council, but would be effective 1/1/24 for Mayor and Council elected in the November 2023 election.
SUMMARY/STAFF IMPRESSIONS:
Vienna’s Council and Mayor are due a salary increase. Not only because their salaries have not been changed in many years, but also because we lag behind other jurisdictions of similar sizes.

Staff recommends Council discuss salary increases and decides on an amount.
