Jan. 23, 2023 - Council Conference Session - Vienna Public Art Commission 2023 Proposal
EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
On Jan. 23, 2023, the Vienna Public Art Commission (VPAC) came before Town Council at a conference session seeking support to move forward with three projects on Town owned property.
1) Mural entitled "A New Day", commemorating community involvement through COVID-19, to be placed on the Community Center exterior south wall of the auxiliary gym.
2) Cherry Street Wall Mural to be located on the exterior brick enclosure of the Community Center dumpsters.
3) Town Hall Utility Pipes to be located on the exterior rear brick wall of Town Hall, in an effort to blend them in with the brick colors and add painted vegetation.
At the Council Conference Session on Jan. 23, 2023, Council recommended that the Community Center mural, the Cherry Street wall mural and the Town Hall utility pipes projects all move forward.
VPAC needs official Council approval to place public art on these Town owned locations:
1) Community Center exterior south wall of the auxiliary gym
2) Cherry Street exterior brick dumpster enclosure
3) Town Hall exterior rear brick wall
VPAC will come to council at a later date for approval of design for these three locations. Design must be approved by the Board of Architectural Review (BAR) and Council prior to commencement of work.
