Title
Request to Set a Public Hearing for Special Events Meals Taxes Ordinance Change on May 20, 2024
Body
DATE(S) OF PRIOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION OF THIS ISSUE: None
EXPLANATION AND SUMMARY:
Meals taxes for special events are collected after the event and calculated as a percent of sales. If a special event vendor has a storefront in Vienna, those special event sales get included in the regular meals tax submissions. If not, the process to collect them is time consuming for only a small amount of sales.
The Departments of Finance and Parks and Recreation propose a new flat fee for meals served at special events. Since this is a change to the Meals Tax ordinance, a public hearing is required.
Staff requests a public hearing on the topic on May 20, 2024 to give the public an opportunity for comment.
